During Session III – Opportunities & Challenges of Agri-PV in Agriculture (14:30–15:30), Eric Lambin and Ana Buchada (UCLouvain) will present their talk entitled “Land use constraints […] - [2.5 million to study the territorial impact of renewable energies](https://luiret-project.com/2-5-million-to-study-the-territorial-impact-of-renewable-energies/): Eric Lambin, professor at the Earth and Life Institute of UCLouvain, has been awarded a €2.5 million ERC Advanced Grant. His research project aims to study the implications of the transition to renewable energies for land use, ecosystems and landscapes. To mitigate climate change, most electricity production will have to come from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power. The problem is that their energy density is much lower than that of fossil or nuclear sources. For the same output, renewable production units take up much more space than conventional production units. They therefore have a major impact on landscapes and ecosystems. These […] ## Pages - [submission and approval of wind turbine projects in Wallonia](https://luiret-project.com/project/project-belgium/submission-and-approval-of-wind-turbine-projects-in-wallonia/): Submission and approval of wind turbine projects in Wallonia About the project This master’s thesis addresses two main questions: What factors influence the location of wind turbines, and what factors affect their approval? Using spatial data on 401 wind turbine projects combined with demographic, environmental, infrastructural, and wind resource variables, logistic regression models were applied to identify statistical relationships with project submission and approval outcomes. Key findings Project submission is more likely in postal districts with lower population density, higher presence of major infrastructure (highways, railways, power pylons), and a lower share of Natura 2000 areas. Regarding land use, it […] - [Acceptability of agrivoltaic projects in Wallonia](https://luiret-project.com/project/project-belgium/acceptability-of-agrivoltaic-projects-in-wallonia/): Acceptability of agrivoltaic projects in Wallonia About the project Agrivoltaics refers to the combination of agricultural production and photovoltaic electricity generation. These dual-use systems can take various forms and designs depending on the specific needs of farmers, aiming to optimize both energy output and agricultural yield. This master thesis combined quantitative and qualitative analyses. The quantitative part relies on the statistical analysis of a database of agrivoltaic projects that were either approved or rejected in Wallonia. The qualitative component consists of semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, including farmers, local residents, and project developers. Key findings Although the small sample size […] - [Western Alps](https://luiret-project.com/project/project-western-alps/): The Luiret project in Western Alps List of ongoing studies in Western Alps: - [Portugal](https://luiret-project.com/project/project-portugal/): The Luiret project in Portugal List of ongoing studies in Portugal: - [Belgium](https://luiret-project.com/project/project-belgium/): The Luiret project in Belgium List of ongoing studies in Belgium: - [Contact](https://luiret-project.com/contact/): Contact us Press & Contact Info Principal investigator of the project Prof. Eric Lambin Address UCLouvainEarth and Life Institute – Earth and Climate (ELI-C)Mercator building, L4.03.08Place Louis Pasteur 3 | 1348 Louvain-la-NeuveBelgium Email eric.lambin@uclouvain.be Phone +32 10 47 44 77 - [News](https://luiret-project.com/news/): News Stay informed about our latest news. - [Team](https://luiret-project.com/team/): Research team - [Project](https://luiret-project.com/project/): The Luiret Project Research question: How do land managers and stakeholders make land use decisions with respect to wind and solar energy deployment on various territories? Research hypothesis Among other things, we are testing whether co-locating and integrating renewable energy production with other land uses decreases the overall impacts of wind and solar energy infrastructure on landscapes compared to a spatial concentration of renewable energy production with an exclusive use of the land.
